Scheme Outline
Do you have a real interest in the more scientific and technical aspects of food manufacture? Do you enjoy working with and motivating other people?
A Technical role will have you working with New Product Development, Production, Purchasing and many other departments to ensure we develop and manufacture safe, high quality products. You will assist others in knowing what can and can’t be done and agreeing solutions. You will need to be decisive, confident and firm in approach coupled with a desire to continue learning and developing your skills.
Criteria: You will be expecting, or will have attained, a technical, food related or science based degree, or have one or two years experience within a food manufacturing environment.
Duration: 2 years - commencing Summer 2010
Training: A programme of courses covering key technical competencies and management skills. These include :-
- Introduction to Food Safety Legislation
- HACCP & Internal Auditing
- Introduction to Food Labelling
- Chilled Food Microbiology & Raw Material Risk Assessment
- Principles of Factory Hygiene
- Management & Leadership
In addition on the job training, coaching and mentoring
Content: Two 12 month work placements doing a real job with real responsibility, different roles and within different businesses. Placements are arranged so as to give as broad an exposure as possible to different products, processes and customers. Typical assignments are Quality Auditor (where you will have responsibility for monitoring compliance with technical standards and helping your colleagues to resolve any issues identified), Process Technologist (involving the safe development of new product concepts into real products) or Technical Systems roles (helping develop and maintain due diligence systems for the business).
After two years you will move into your first permanent role to continue your career development with the potential to reach a Technical Manager role within 7-10 years.
Location: Placements could be at anyone of our sites in the UK.
Salary: £22,000 - 2 weeks B&B or rent plus reasonable removal costs
